Background[]
Heat Abnormal (熱異常) is track no. 10, disc 2 in Films, Sunny Spots, Graduations. Its counterpart song is Heat Normal.
It was originally written for Vocacolle, a bi-seasonal online event where Vocaloid producers compete for the highest Niconico ranking over a period of three days. The song ended up winning despite not having the VocaColle 2022 tag, partly due to the efforts of Iyowa's fanbase.
Meaning[]
The song appears to be someone's last message recounting their thoughts and feelings before the world gets swallowed up by a black hole. The MV depicts Adachi Rei holding a tape recorder to her ear, and the lyrics start and end with quotes, supporting that it is one continuous message.

Adachi Rei[]
Adachi Rei is a fully artificial voice bank characterized as a robot. Whether she is speaking into the tape recorder about her own feelings as an artificial being, if she is relaying the feelings of humans, or simply listening to what someone else had recorded is up to interpretation. Her mouth is not shown moving in the MV, but this may be a stylistic choice. The repeated lyrics are also characteristic of a machine or recording stuttering.

- After the song won Vocacolle, Adachi Rei had an explosion in popularity, with many songs and covers beginning to utilize her. Vocacolle Spring 2023 even appears to be a collaboration with Mechanical Girl, the group behind Adachi Rei.
- Assuming the girl depicted in Till Your Tear Goes is not a derivative of Hatsune Miku, Heat Abnormal's PV is one of three Iyowa PVs to feature the vocal synthesizer itself rather than an original character, the other two being Warera wa Hare and KLY.
- Heat Abnormal is playable in maimai DX as part of its collaboration with Iyowa.
- Due to winning Vocacolle, Heat Abnormal was going to be added to Project SEKAI: COLORFUL STAGE!. However, since Iyowa didn't use the correct tags to enter Heat Abnormal into the contest, the second place song, SEKAI-Chan and KAFU-Chan's Errand Ensemble was added instead.
- Despite this, it would later be added to the game with a cover from one of the in-game units, due to demand from fans.
